Leaving the hotel, we head off to explore the city of Antsiranana, commonly known as Diego Suarez after the two Portuguese seafarers who discovered the bay in the 14th century.
Our first stop is at a panoramic viewpoint from where we can admire the bay, the second largest in the world with 156 km of coast, embellished with the small island of Nosy Lonjo, known as Pain de Sucre or Sugar Loaf, that juts out of the blue mirror of water in the bay where dolphins and turtles may be seen.
We then head towards the Mountain of French, where we’ll have the opportunity to take photographs of the majestic baobab trees, typical of Madagascar, that grow in the area.
Returning towards the city centre we arrive at Rue Colbert, where historic colonial buildings alternate with more modern constructions, bringing its warm atmosphere to life.
A visit to the lively central market gives us a snapshot of the daily lives of the local population, while a stop at some craft shops offers an irresistible opportunity to purchase exotic souvenirs.
Our tour also includes a welcome break with a snack of fresh fruit and juice to recharge our batteries.
We end our excursion with one last stop at Place de la Musique, where we’ll enjoy a folk performance before returning to the hotel.
Immerse yourself in the city of Diego Suarez to enjoy its cosmopolitan atmosphere and colonial charm, with breath-taking views over the bay, time for shopping and a welcome break with juice and fresh fruit.
